In the late 1970s, aspiring director George Miller, and a 21-year-old actor named Mel Gibson went into the Outback to shoot a low budget action film. Stuntmen were nearly killed; crewmembers and members of the Hells Angels working as extras were paid in beer.  It resulted in one of the most beloved sagas in cinema history.
